Founded in 1948 and named after David Mowbray Balme, the first Principal of the University, the Balme Library is the main library of the University of Ghana and the largest in the University of Ghana Library System (UGLS).
The UGLS consists of the Balme Library, the Accra City Campus library, the College of Health Sciences library, and hall, departmental, school and institute libraries across the University’s campuses. Together they provide print and online resources, along with services, programmes and spaces that help students, faculty and staff achieve their personal and academic goals.
The Balme Library holds more than 400,000 printed volumes, subscribes to a growing number of e-journals and e-books, and is a depository for most United Nations publications.
